Teaching Kiah to Load in a Trailer
When we rescue horses we begin the journey to get them healthy and trained so that, ideally, they can be adopted and find their forever home. In the case of Kiah, the Friesian that we rescued from the SPCA after she was abandoned in a pasture for a year when her owner died, she was perfectly healthy but at 11 years old she had never been trained. We partnered with Scott Purdum at Advantage Horsemanship to provide her with some foundational training that she never received. When we got her she was barely halter broke and had never had so much as a saddle on her back.
When we picked her up from the SPCA, it took almost 7 hours to load her in the trailer over the course of 2 days. Kiah had never been in a trailer before. She was scared. Scott had his work cut out for him, but he was able to teach Kiah some new tricks. Check out the video below to watch Kiah learn how to get into a trailer.
In addition to the feed and medical care that we provide, training like this with Advantage Horsemanship Equestrian Center costs a significant amount of money but is very necessary to ensure she is able to be ridden and handled safely by us and others. Your donations to Freedom & Whiskey Equine Rescue go to help cover the costs of training like this with professionals like Scott. Kiah has been with Scott at Advantage Horsemanship for 4 months, but the investment in her training will help ensure she has the best possible chance at finding a forever home with the right owner. If you want to help us continue to provide Kiah with the training and support that she needs, you can make a tax-deductible donation easily right here on our website by clicking this link to visit our Donate page.
Thank you to Scott Purdum and Advantage Horsemanship Equestrian Center for being patient with her and for the awesome video demonstrating the abilities of a talented horse trainer and the potential of an amazing horse.
