The power of your donation!
In the bustling world of horse auctions, a small, malnourished pony with a damaged eye caught our attention. His gentle demeanor tugged at our heartstrings, inspiring us to rally friends and family for donations to rescue him. Thanks to their generosity, we not only raised enough to purchase the pony but also secured funds for his veterinary care. Affectionately nicknamed “One Eye Willy”, our new friend’s journey was just beginning.
Fate took an unexpected turn when a kill buyer acquired Willy for export and slaughter. Determined to save him, we negotiated a last-minute deal: if we could reach New Jersey within 24 hours, Willy would be ours. With borrowed trailer in tow, we embarked on a race against time. Minutes after meeting the kill buyer, we were homeward bound with our precious cargo, his weeping left eye a stark reminder of his uncertain past.
Our veterinarian’s examination led us to an equine ophthalmologist, who recommended removing Willy’s painful eye. Post-surgery, the transformation was remarkable. Willy’s entire demeanor shifted, revealing a happier, more comfortable pony. Now in his mid-twenties, One Eye Willy defies expectations, becoming a beloved mascot of Freedom & Whiskey Equine Rescue. His story of resilience continues to inspire all who meet him.
